So I guess this forum is not really getting any love? 39 members online now!!!!!!!! If they ban the spammers, there will only be 2 members online.
When an IP address is banned, it prevents accounts from posting from that IP.
100s of spammers are using a select few IP addresses that have already been banned, so while their names might not have a strike through them, those spambots can't post anything.
Yes what potential newcomers wants to see if a list of spam accounts and no new post in a couple days that'll reel them in!!!!

Do you know how spam accounts work and how many techniques exist? New techniques appear quite often. I'm sure you've noticed that those blackened names with the strikethroughs are banned spambots. Even if there were a way to hide banned accounts, you'd still have all the unbanned accounts (1000+ and counting). Spammers join the forums in large groups every week using new IP addresses. How would you propose all spammers be banned and their accounts be hidden from the Who's Online section? Is that even possible on this forum software? There isn't a way to prevent spam from finding it's way to the forums, but we eliminate it at first sight. If there were an easy or moderate way to address the spam issue, we'd already have done it. Phases has much experience managing other forums, and he's learned plenty regarding spam. If you know something that we don't, then please share so politely. We (the staff) also have a great interest in seeing this site grow. Constructive criticism and feedback would be much appreciated. Thank You.
I don't know what you expect, we can't just make new people appear here and post and we can't just magically make all the spam bots disappear. We do the best we can, we delete them every day and ensure we ban every unique subnet we can that they are coming from. They don't get many posts through, and if they do they are only there briefly.
I'll tell you one thing though, I'm getting mighty tired of seeing these snide remarks. You are more than welcome to move along if you're not happy with things - but stop making these remarks about how "sad" staff and the forum is and how we "don't care" about the site and this and that.
I'm sure you're right, they DON'T want to see a bunch of spam accounts. And neither do I. But I'm sure many of the more mature ones don't want to see one line replies of "boobies" on "what kind of things do you like" threads, either.
You're doing a great job posting otherwise, and reporting spam, but if you could perhaps act like you're on our side in the meantime, that would be greeeaaat.
Having accounts on the way bottom of the forum and who is online section most likely will not drive away members. Having spam threads and posts would be more likely to do so. The moderators have been doing a fantastic job at removing the spam(from my perspective). I have not seen any posts or threads created. They get removed as fast as humanly possible. If the accounts are banned then i don't think it should be a top priority to remove/hide the accounts. The important thing would be to remove spam from the boards and ban the members(which the staff has been doing).
Spam happens on the majority of forums. It is a fact. There is nothing more that they can do that they are already not doing. We just have to accept that. These forums are in a very early stage. That is the reason for the small amount of active members here, not the spambots.
Push to test.
Release to detonate.
